Antique Early 1900s Original Gothic Arts HUGE Cast Iron Municipal Light Sconces
SIZE- Very large: 24″ Tall x 13 1/2″ Outward x 8 1/2 Diameter/Hexagon at the spikes. Mounting back plates- 15″ Tall x 7″ Wide x 1 1/2 thick. Salvaged for Restoration- VERY RARE Original outdoor Large cast iron municipal commercial set of lighted mission arts crafts light sconces from the very early 1900s. CONDITION- The lights are original as found, there is faded/flaking layers of old weathered paint. The cast iron frames are intact overall, one light does have a lower spike/tine tip that is missing (Pictured). The lights have had signs of maintenance throughout the decades. One of the top caps is a cast metal other than iron, it is lighter and most likely was a replacement at some point decades ago, it is identical to the cast iron top that is on the other light. NOTE- These lights were acquired from an individual who had intended on restoring them but did not feel they had the know how and ability once starting the project so they stopped, a few things were started such as the replacement brass cap screws, also one of the lights had the socket removed and the upper glass portion of the light had been taken off and put back on lightly secured back in place for now. PLEASE NOTE – The cast iron top cap has a hairline crack starting that is visible but the cap seems very intact and looks like it’s been that way for ages, but mentioning for listing accuracy, one of the cap screw holes on this same top cap is very worn and sort of oval shaped at this point but the screw still threads good overall and functional. All glass panels have aging, scrapes, and usage ware, some. Panels have a few cracks and one does have a small hole, there has also been a panel that was replaced that doesn’t match the others. SIDE NOTE- These would look fabulous with new glass panels such as slag glass etc. These lights will be magnificent with the original aging left as is or completely refinished, either way they will be gorgeous. Please keep in mind these are well over 100 year old and very rare large commercial municipal outdoor lights that has lived over 100 years of public exposure and use, they will need rewired/restored. Each light will hold one standard size bulb. Sorry bulbs not included. These lights are very heavy as you would expect due to the size and cast iron construction, please check with your contractor about proper mounting support ect. Please review all photos using zoom for condition and detail. More photos upon request. These are absolutely stunning and will make great focal pieces wherever they are installed, extremely rare gems to say the least. Thank you for looking!

A unique, very heavy yet delicately featured cast-iron wall sconce. This one-of-a-kind light is a substantial piece of art. Without the globe the sconce weighs nearly 10 pounds. This sconce likely originated on a late 1800s to early 1900s public building. The style is late Victorian or early Art Nouveau. The stock globe you see is a satin opal and comes with the sconce unless you otherwise specify. NEW: Optionally, you may choose a flame, cased-milk glass opal, or larger 7-inch French crystal inside sandblasted globe. The flame and cased glass are available for no additional charge. See the photo with the black background for a visual on the shade options. The imperfections you see in the iron are from the casting process and hammer work, and are part of the character and uniqueness of this piece of history. Wear is consistent with age. This sconce was restored and is ready for another century of illumination. The restoration process was painstaking. The sconce was first stripped to bare iron and then heated to 450 degrees and quenched in oil to give it a blacksmith-style finish. This process impregnates the metal with oil, which then turns black in the heat. It’s an old-school process that lets the most minute detail in the metal show through-paint would soften or even hide the details. The sconce was finished with two coats of hand-applied wax buffed to a semi gloss. The 3.25 inch fitter globe has a satin finish is hand blown and made in the USA-it’s not a cheap import. Inside you’ll find a new porcelain socket and wiring. As with all electrical items, especially older ones, this light should be checked and installed by a professional electrician. This heavy sconce light is about 17 inches high to the top of the globe, about 6 inches wide across the back plate and projects about 9 inches.
