Griswold No 6 Tite-Top Cast Iron Dutch Oven & Lid. 8-1/4″ Diameter (10-1/8″ Wide with bail ears), 6-3/4″ high with lid & handle, 3-3/4″ High without lid. This is a vintage Dutch Oven with no breaks, cracks or repairs. The lid is marked on top in raised letters “Griswold No 6 Tite-Top Dutch Oven”, and the underside of the lid is marked in raised letters Patented Feb. ” and inscribed with the Griswold logo and “Erie. The lid has 2 concentric drip rings to keep your food moist during cooking. On the oven bottom, there is a lift assist tab on one side and a bail wire with unique triangular shaped ends that allow the bail wire to stand in multiple positions. The bottom is inscribed The Griswold Manufacturing Co. Cast Iron 6 Tite-Top Dutch Oven Erie PA. A Pat’d Mar. ” 2605A”, with the Griswold logo in the center. This is a time-consuming process. No harsh methods were used on this oven. There may be some unevenness in how the seasoning took. See high resolution pictures for more and use the magnify feature. All the markings are in very good condition. It has a nice cooking surface with very minor shallow pitting that will fill with time and additional seasoning–see high resolution pictures. The lid fits well with no warping. This Dutch oven has about 4 newspaper thicknesses of rock from the center when tested on a flat granite surface. Rock is most important when using flat-bottomed cast iron on a smooth top stove, because a smooth bottomed piece with severe rock because of a warped center will tend to slowly spin when heated to high temperatures. Almost all cast iron pieces, smooth bottom or otherwise, will work just fine on electric stoves with raised heating elements or on gas stoves, because the center portion of the piece causing the rock rests in the depressed or open center of the elements. I tested this Dutch oven on my gas stove and it was fine, but I do not recommend it for a smooth top stove. Cast iron can be damaged if dropped or mishandled. I pack all cast iron items extremely well, using bubble wrap and additional packing materials.
