This antique, large & sturdy pig bank is a rare find for collectors. Made of cast iron and weighing in at a whopping 25 lbs, it measures 18 inches long and is designed and painted to resemble a Hampshire pig (belted, saddleback) for a butcher shop display. Great unique piece for either your yard & garden or indoor decor.

Vintage Large Rare Cast Iron Piggy Bank Doorstop. From a closed butcher shop. Was used as a window display. Pig measures 17″ long and 9″ tall. If you count tail 18 long. There is a coin slot cut in the top and a coin retrieval hole but missing rubber stopper or cork. There is some paint chipping, marks and dirt, I did not clean, as well as some scratches and standard wear from age. Please review all photos carefully. Can be repainted to any color if desired. Solid unit, welded, no screws, true vintage. Well packed of course. Is a Final sale. Please see all pictures and use zoom feature. Often the pictures describe the item better than words. Large 1891 Jarvis Antique Cast Iron Traders Bank of Canada Old Building 820A
The Toronto-based Traders Bank was strongly rooted in rural Ontario. In 1891 its inspector, Aemilius Jarvis, developed an ingenious cast-metal savings bank modelled after the bank’s head office. The savings bank was left at farm homes where savers deposited coins in slots along its roofline. Individually numbered compartments inside could be designated for specific savings purposes. Once a month, bank officials visited the farm to unlock the roof and “deposit” the savings. In 1912 the bank was taken over by The Royal Bank of Canada. About 1500 of these nickel plated cast iron banks were produced but when the program was abandoned the banks were scrapped or destroyed. Eyelet to hold lock is broken. There are various finial and part of the roof line missing in a few areas on 2 sides. Has with the original metal/wood tray insert. 9″ x 9″ x 5. We sell a wide variety of used items.
