Griswold large logo #10, 11-3/4, 716 cast iron skillet w/ lid / cover # 1100. There are no cracks, breaks, etc. No specific issues to mention, but there may be a casting flaw, utensil marks, scratches, dis colorization, staining, etc. Has not been used since the restoration process. Photos were taken outdoors in natural light and are a big part of the description. Skillet sits pretty flat with something extra subtle if you catch it right. Nice examples of both pieces. I’ve restored hundreds of pieces of cast iron cookware. All go through lye to remove any crud, organic material, seasoning, etc. Then I run them through the electrolysis process to remove any corrosion, rust, impurities, etc. They are scrubbed by hand using dish liquid, stainless steel scouring pads, stainless steel brushes, and magic erasers under cold water to bring them back to the bare metal finish. Finally, all pieces are run through three rounds of seasoning using vegetable shortening. Cast iron cookware will last hundreds of years and generations if properly taken care of. These are beautiful, heirloom quality pieces made right here in the USA. Will be bubble wrapped and surrounded by packing material to ensure that they don’t shift in transit. They are not making cookware like this anymore, and I would consider it tragic if anything were to happen to these in transit. Griswold #9 Cast Iron Long Griddle With Large Slant Logo & Ghost Image Restored

Vintage Griswold #9 cast iron long griddle with the large slant logo. Measures 24 inches from handle to handle. The cooking surface measures 20 3/4 by 9 1/2 inches wide. No chips or cracks. Sits flat on a glass surface with no wobble. The bottom surface is very good with a legible logo and lettering. There also is a “ghost image” of the word ERIE on the right-hand side that can be seen in the photos. This happened when the foundry changed from the previous logo, etc. And filled in the previous logos with lead on the original mold. Over time the lead would wear out of the mold and the ghost image can be seen. The top cooking surface is like new (these did not have the glassy surface like the round griddles or skillets). There is an area that looks like pitting that can be seen in the photos. I don’t believe this is pitting. It is just a casting flaw and will not affect cooking performance. About Cast Iron Archaeology. Restoring vintage and antique cast iron cookware is my passion. For me this is a labor of love. The difference between my cast iron and the others out there is the attention to detail. First, I strip it down to the bare iron with my all natural process. Then, I season each piece using a combination of beeswax and natural oils. Seasoning takes one hour at a time in a 450 degree oven and is repeated as many times as it takes to achieve that nice glossy coating. The entire process takes about a week to complete. This is a professional restoration done right from start to finish and I would put my cast iron up against any you can find online or anywhere else. They will have utensil marks and small scrapes and nicks. We try to point out any significant abnormalities or damage in our listings. When it is stated that the skillet is flat, it means that there is no bow, wobble or spin. It is very rare that a vintage cast iron skillet will have absolutely no movement on a glass surface. Most were not perfect coming out of the foundry. There will likely be some small amount of movement on a flat surface. If the skillet is absolutely perfect I will definitely point that out.
