The lid fits well with no warping. This Dutch oven has about 4 newspaper thicknesses of rock from the center when tested on a flat granite surface. Rock is most important when using flat-bottomed cast iron on a smooth top stove, because a smooth bottomed piece with severe rock because of a warped center will tend to slowly spin when heated to high temperatures. Almost all cast iron pieces, smooth bottom or otherwise, will work just fine on electric stoves with raised heating elements or on gas stoves, because the center portion of the piece causing the rock rests in the depressed or open center of the elements. I tested this Dutch oven on my gas stove and it was fine, but I do not recommend it for a smooth top stove. Cast iron can be damaged if dropped or mishandled. I pack all cast iron items extremely well, using bubble wrap and additional packing materials.
