Early 19th century-and quite possibly late 18th century based on the overall casting, handle design and triangular legs-flat bottomed cooking pot with a fixed, wrought iron handle, and swivel hanging ring. This pot was designed to hang from a fireplace crane and cook over an open flame. Note the unusual method of securing the handle to the cast brackets on the side of the pot. A flat tab was looped over the bracket and then secured in place by an iron pin. One of the tabs (see photos) has corroded on the bottom but the forged attachments are quite solid and intact. The entire handle assembly is rock solid and the hanging loop swivels freely. The pot has been stripped and re-seasoned and is in excellent, ready to use condition. The pot measures 11″ diameter at the base and 13″ across at the upper rim. It is 4 deep. The handle projects approx. 8 above the top rim.
